How to assess owner/operators when applying as an investment analyst?
In a few processes with owner/operators that don’t have a brand name (yet) and was wondering what metric do I use to assess how fruitful the opportunity is?
they have about 10 people and very few in investment team, AUM of £2Bn
They do JV with top tier PE firms.. the likes of Carlyle, BX etc. does this carry any weight when it comes to assessing the opportunity?
if there are any other things I should consider please do let me know, thanks guys.
How long have they been in business? How well do their assets do? Are they constantly active or are they coasting off success from 5 years ago?
The size of the fund and the partners they have are all immaterial, or at the very least are only sometimes going to be reflective of the things you care about. The honest truth is that a lot of this is difficult to figure out unless you're sitting in the room asking the principals.
Assuming there is some baseline assumption that you'll have work to do, all you should care about is the role you're going to play and the responsibilities you'll have.
