Need REPE Internship Advice

Hello all, I am currently a first year MBA student and basketball player at a non-target school. I have been networking/self-teaching for the last ~6mo with the goal to get into REPE. This has led me to a few first round interviews with some smaller firms, but they did not like that my coursework and professional experience are not RE focused. I have been unable to get any summer internship during undergrad due to my extensive time commitment to basketball. I recently graduated this spring with a 3.75 GPA in undergrad (finance) and took the only RE course available at my school.

I have been reaching out to people (around 3-5 networking calls a week) in order to try to make connections and learn as much as I can about the industry. I feel like I am at a standstill right now as I wait to hear back from a couple more firms, but do not feel confident in my chances at moving forward with those processes. I know a lot of places want to fill up their internship class done pretty early, so I feel like I am behind in the process.

Big word dump here I know, but I would really appreciate some advice from you guys. Have been on the forum for 3-4 months now and have learned a lot just from reading. Looking forward to hearing from you.

It is just generally a shit time in the real estate world. I wouldn't take it personally. Keep up the networking, try to meet for coffee and whatnot instead of only phone calls so you can make a personal connection, and after you talk to someone, ask them for recommendations on who else you should talk to.

That said, isn't college ball a late fall through late spring sport? Does summer ball really interfere with you getting an internship?
