Newbie question, is there such thing as an investment sales analyst position at a top brokerage that works on multiple product types?
Do REPE firms care if your exp as an analyst is pigeonholed into a single property type?

Yes, typically the large firms will have capital markets commercial teams (office, industrial, retail, development land) and multifamily teams. If you're very strong in excel and ARGUS you shouldn't have any issues with entry-level REPE roles. Although if you come from a multifamily investment sales team and don't have ARGUS experience it may be a hurdle.
Thanks for the reply! I’m trying to break into the industry from residential.
So you’re saying an analyst in capital markets will get exposure to multiple property types?
Or are you saying that there are teams working on the different property types but each team will specialize in one?
I’m just starting as an Investment Sales Analyst at one of the big four and here we have a Multifamily Group that only does MF and then another group that I am in that’s just a general ‘Capital markets investment sales’ group.
I’m working under a couple of producers who are specialized in office, retail, industrial and some other niche classes. While the volume of each asset depends on person and market conditions, as an analyst I am exposed to everything and get a lot of reps with Excel and Argus.
That’s really helpful to hear. Thanks a lot!
Working as an analyst in capital markets is what I’m going for then!
It's very team specific, I would go to costar power brokers and look for the top sales brokers in your market and do research on their teams. You'll be able to see which property types they sell.
I’ll give that a shot!
Yeah at Eastdil there are some analyst pools that work across all assets. Think they also have some analysts that work on specific teams around industrial and multifamily.
