RE Interview Review
Hey guys,
I just did a superday for a REPE for an analyst role. 2 hour modelling, discussion and 1 hour interview after. Modelling went really well, answered everything well and even showcased more. Interview was super good especially motivational related till last part where I was asked basic technicals and I completely heard the terms wrongly which took longer to get to the right answer.
Asked super basic question like what is the IRR given the scenario some scenario but I misheard so took longer than needed. As well as what’s the CoC yield of a given scenario and completely thought he meant something else. Eventually got to the answer for both but for such basic questions I feel I threw away an opportunity.
How do you think this part will be weighted against everything else? How harsh would they treat the mistake. Am super bumped out that I made such a stupid mistake.
Please share your experiences and thoughts.

First off, don't beat yourself up too much. Mistakes happen, and it's important to focus on the bigger picture. From what you've described, your modeling test and motivational interview went really well, which are significant components of the evaluation process. Here's how your situation might be assessed:

Remember, firms are looking for candidates who can grow and learn. If you don’t get this role, take the feedback and keep pushing forward. Rejections are part of the process, and every interview makes you stronger for the next one. Good luck!

Don’t beat yourself up about it, these things happen to everyone at some point. It sounds like you did well in the modelling and interview, the interviewers understand nerves and you got to the right answer in the end anyway. Put this to one side and wait for the decision, there is nothing you can do now. I wouldn’t count yourself out too early, it probably had less weighting than you think.
Hey, really appreciate the words. Update: I got through to the next round. Meeting the senior team next week. Glad the others compensated for it.
Congrats, the current market is tough so well done. Best of luck next week!
Update: Received positive news from HR. Said the feedback was really great and they’re looking to conclude the process by end of the month. Not sure how I should take it or just be neutral.
Really appreciate the encouragement!
Was this for Blackstone or Starwood out of curiosity? I interviewed with both of them a few years ago and remember them asking questions like that.
