Real Estate Investment Banking Groups in the DC Area

Hi, first time poster here. Does anyone know any real estate IB groups in the DC area? I'm moving to DC soon and want to know where I can start networking. Much appreciated.

Thanks for the insight guys. I'm moving to the DC area due to family reason, and my current firm has already agreed to transfer me to their DC office.

@AcquisitionsGuy, the firms you mentioned are all MM banks. Given my background (second year analyst at a middle market investment sales brokerage firm), would you think it's more efficient to target boutique REIB firms, if there is a such thing in DC, or anywhere at all? Thanks!

I have a database of companies. Here are the ones that have REIB offices in the D.C. area. Although, as has been said, "investment banking" can be kind of a loose term (a true IB wouldn't really focus on an individual property generally, but common vernacular tends to lump in the organizations that place debt and equity for single properties into the same category as investment banking). These are the firms that have either genuine REIB practices with offices in the D.C. area or firms that offer similar services (debt/equity placement).

Thanks for the list. From what I know, Baird and BMO are "real" IBs that raise equity for REITs and real estate companies and do some M&As. The others are more like mortgage brokers and property/portfolio level equity people. Eastdil Secured is more in the middle from what I know.

With my end goal being REPE (most of which I believe is asset-focused as opposed to corporate-focused), do you think "real" REIB experience is more valuable?

My view is that your skill set will be the most valuable. Most "private equity" (in terms of the individual number of firms and investors) invests in single buildings/single properties and would probably have a preference for the "other" investment banking experience, but some of the gigantic (and most prestigious) funds probably have multiple different portfolio level strategies.

I think it really comes down to the size, sophistication, and needs of the individual PE firm hiring you.
