REPE exit opps

I know that most people who start in RE stay in RE.

Have you seen anyone who transitioned to other industries after 4-5 years in REPE acquisitions? Where did they go?

Is it possible to make the move despite being in RE pigeonholes you?

Currently debating a REPE offer vs a more generalist PE/AM offer.

after 4-5 years in REPE acquisitions?

I quoted the above part of the post because of the timeframe listed (4-5 years), for most (I'd guess at least), this would be the worst time to leave the field as you would just be where you are in reach of getting equity, promote, big promotions, or otherwise capitalizing on your hard work. Part of the reason people stay in real estate for so long (literally whole careers) is in large part for pure enjoyment (generalist PE/AM seems boring AF to me personally, YMMV, everyone can be different), but it also takes time to harvest the big payouts of deals, promotes, etc.

After someone lives through a "liquidity event", they may want to do other things outside of real estate. I have seen the VC/Tech/Media moves (not that common) or go to other start-up ventures; some go to other corporate type roles; even to brokerage (I guess still kinda in RE, but worth noting).

Not likely to see many moves back to general finance world (including PE/IB) as it would probably seem like a step backward.

Hence as the say............... Real Estate is the Exit Opportunity!
