Teams within institutional firms

I know that most of your exposure and success at institutional firms is very team dependent. What I’m unsure of is the say so you have on picking your teams as an entry level analyst. Does anyone have any insight into this? Think JLL/CBRE.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know about team selection at institutional firms like JLL and CBRE:

  • Team Dependency: Your exposure and success at institutional firms are indeed highly dependent on the team you are placed in.
  • Entry-Level Analyst Say: As an entry-level analyst, your ability to choose your team is generally limited. Most firms will place you based on their needs and your skill set.
  • Structured Analyst Rotation: Some firms, like Eastdil and HFF, have semi-formal or structured analyst rotations. These rotations allow analysts to experience different teams and roles before settling into a specific team.
  • Sales vs. Numbers Focus: Firms like CBRE, Cushman, and JLL may prefer to hire individuals who can pitch themselves as sales-oriented, while firms like Eastdil and HFF might focus more on numbers and execution roles initially, with the potential to transition into sales roles over time.

For more detailed insights, you might want to explore specific threads or discussions on WSO related to team dynamics and entry-level experiences at these firms.

Yes. You're the first round draft pick and all of the managing directors fight over who gets you because you are that special.

...but is it REPE?

We all know you’re looking at jll capital markets based on your post history. You’ll more than likely be a pooled analyst and pulled onto deals on an as-needed basis by anyone who needs you, then returned to the pool when you’re done
