What do people wear at RE firms?
What do people generally wear in real estate development, brokerages and REPE? Do they usually require a suit and all that jazz or are they more relaxed and allow business casual or a nice shirt and dress pants and shoes?
Varies from tees and boots to suit and tie. Depends if your in cap markets or working for a small dev shop.
West coast REPE at a fairly large firm (15-20B aum), casual dress code. Jeans, polos, vans/chucks/nicer sneakers are acceptable on the daily. Love it
West Coast is typically casual dress code to business casual. East Coast is typically business casual to business formal. There's definitely some exceptions, but overall standard.
Depends, one brokerage shop I was at was tie every day the one I'm at now is khakis and a polo unless you are meeting a client
depends on what your role is and if you are meeting with clients or are behind excel all day. I am more of the latter, so button up and dress pants works for me 90% of the time
Vest game is strong
Hashtag Midtown uniform.
Vest szn best szn
Real estate development is almost certainly going to be the most casual on a day-to-day basis. I have to be on construction sites or walking buildings on a regular basis, so I wear boots, jeans (or maybe khakis) and a tee every day.
From what I see and what I imagine, brokers are on the other end of the spectrum. They're selling themselves, so they dress business casual to business formal. Don't know a ton of REPE folks but they seem to be in the middle.
Just moved to REPE. Jeans, boots, and a polo for me.
Suits when doing presentations, ties when meeting clients, golf shirts on Fridays.
On the East Coast -- development typically see polos (tucked in usually) w/ jeans. Brokerage is the most formal for sure with suits mostly. Deal with PE less so but button downs and slacks of khakis and dress shoes. I don't see anyone in T-shirts unless they are principals of a small firm...The IB's wear suits too.
VV button downs and frat vests
Developer here. I wear a button up & slacks (including a sport coat if there's a serious meeting or a vest if it's cold) or golf attire (polo, quarter zip if it's cold, etc.). Sometimes jeans on site. Never suits.
birthday suit all day everyday
Hmmm. I would guess you are a CMBS trader from your living room. I doubt that is the standard in other aspects of RE.
RE Capital Placement & Brokerage on East Coast - we've handled two multi-billion dollar transactions this summer with most of our transactions in the half-billion dollar range. Boss wears a polo and jeans, I wear t shirt and jeans, other analysts wear sweatpants.
Da fuq? You guys hiring?!
Kind of embarrassed that the #1 thread on the front page of WSO (at least right now) is a discussion about how guys in real estate wear polo shirts with Vans.
Developer - Midwest
Casual button up, jeans, nice sneakers
Step 1. Buy a suit. Step 2. Get an interview. Step 3. Wear suit to interview. Step 4. Be observant and look around at what the other fucks in the office are wearing. Step 5. If offered/accepting the position, blend in with said fucks. Step 6. Profit$$$$
Midwest PERE. Khakis and button down most days, with a fleece if its cold
Hard hats, patagucci vests, and deal sleds yo.
NYC advisory - Suit no tie, if client facing. Vest, jeans, casual button down otherwise. Mix in a blazer/henley combo if I am feeling frisky.
Work for a large developer as an acquisitions analyst
Today I am wearing desert boots (clarks), my trusty Gap stretch pants, and a J Crew button down. Perfect for a crisp autumn day.
The new analyst next to me is dressed in a suit - he'll learn :)
