What to look for in a job
What do you look for in a career at the junior level (associate) and how do you evaluate potential opportunities? Coming out of BB REIB.
Would you look for a smaller shop that you feel you could be at 10+ years? Would you look for a sweaty shop with a good brand name to further credentialize your resume, where you go in knowing that you would likely leave later for WLB reasons? Specifically looking for advice from people 10+ years into their careers who may have faced similar choices and how did you go about thinking through them
Dependant on what role you’re looking for.
If you’re talking an acquisitions role, the obvious focus is on dry powder and deal flow. Getting deal exposure and experience is essential to the start of a career, you can easily lose 2/3 years at a shop that doesn’t deploy/close on any deals, which can really stunt your personal growth.
The size of the shop is dependent on your aspirations. Being at a bigger shop can potentially open more doors in the future, but I’d say the RE space is less focused on the size of the shop when it comes to hiring, and more the experience and responsibility level you’ve experienced up until that point.
I do not have 10 years+ experience
