Help - changing industries - London
Guys, please tell me what I am doing wrong. After applying to numerous IB, PE, HF positions, I can't seem to get any interviews. Not even phone interviews! Does the resume scream something? What's your honest opinion?
I am trying to make a move from economic advisory/market research (think EY transaction advisory) to anything more finance related - consulting, HF, IB, anything. The company I am with at the moment does not have a global brand name that would be recognizable by anyone, but is fairly known among investment banks, at least at analyst level, probably not at HR level. Their advisory division is kind of in start-up stages and I doubt people would know its work. However, I got to work on some interesting deals there and I am somewhat confident I would do well at interview/case studies/testing.... if only I could get to the interview stage. Ideally, I would like to get into HF or prop trading, because somehow I have a feel for it, but I doubt I can get-in at this stage, without much demonstrable finance experience.

Any tips much appreciated.
Some legitimate experience but the format is not appealing and more so a turn-off. Something tells me you will get a lot of suggestions to adopt the M&I format. It would be a good idea.
Thanks for suggestions Higheck. I am aware of the M&I format, but haven't adopted that one yet. What do you think about skills - is it worth listing "good knowledge of financial markets and instruments"? Since I don't have much formal experience in finance, I thought that would be a way to put forward that I am familiar with it.
Interesting experience. You should probably aim for some of the regional boutiques over the BBs given a lack of direct internship experience (I assume you are looking for a FT position). A 3.2 is low, especially from a non-target. Try taking extra classes to get your GPA up. Also (as Highheck123 said) the formatting needs a lot of improvement. Do that, and you should have better luck!
I wish I could pull the GPA a little bit, but I graduated about 4 years ago, so not much room for the GPA improvement, unfortunately. I was thinking enrolling to some online college to hide the GPA, that would be helpful for the MBA tor PhD too - better GPA, perhaps some fresh references. Or taking GMAT/GRE to list next to the GPA, if I could get above 700 on either that should offset the GPA, right? But I really need to get on a better paying job for a couple years now to save for this. I will do the formatting.
I would not mention good knowledge of financial markets and financial markets only because that may mean different things to you than to the employer and if they test you and you come up short it will look bad for you.
