Junior Year Undergrad (non-target school) Resume

Hey guys,

I am new to WSO and have been looking around and just recently found this page. I am a Junior Econ major from Wagner College on Staten Island looking for a summer analyst position in either investment banking or economic consulting and wanted to see what you guys thought about my resume. Thanks

I won't give you the names online, but I just did a quick LinkedIn search for "Wagner College + Ice Hockey" and got a few names. As it turns out seeing how SI is in NYC you guys have a good number of ppl on Wall Street. I would email these alumi first as you are a little late to the recruiting game. Most BBs have already processed the first rd of SuperDays.

Not a bad resume. You have a couple good internships and your academics are looking fantastic. My only suggestion(s) would be to beef up the bullet-contents. I'd try to be more specific in regards to what you did and I'd choose my wording a little differently (i.e saying "proficient in word, ppt, excel, etc. sounds way too generic and vague).

Just some helpful critiques below.

Formatting - As you are interested in investment banking, formatting is paramount. Make sure the entire right side of your resume is aligned properly. As of right now, "Expected May 2016" and all the other dates for work do not align. Also, if you are using specific months in one area of your resumes, you should use it throughout. For instance, do not say "November 2014 - Present" and "Fall 2012 - Present". Pick one formatting and stick with it. There are other formatting issues, but those are the major ones.

Bullet Points - Every one of your bullet points can be rewritten to be have more impact. Each bullet point should have an action and a quantifiable result if possible. For example, you could say "Spearheaded development and management of club budget, resulting in 10% annual cost savings."

Hope this helps.
