Here's the resume. The equity analyst is just through a program at the Masters school. Not really noteworthy, except I guess it shows some interest in finance.
Been interviewing at a variety of places, smaller IB's like PJ, and Jefferies, and other more corporate finance type jobs but haven't landed a thing. Perhaps you people can tell me why.
Resume looks pretty good. I would try and use more action/results orientated bullet's. MSF is a tough degree since most recruiters have very little understanding of it at this point. How has your networking been going? Do you have the vault guides for IB and MMKT IB? If not PM me.
I totally agree with the above poster.Recruiters have little idea as to what to do with an MSF guy.I myself am an MSF student wanting to get into IB but somehow all of my offers are geared towards trading.Have you looked at prop trading firms ? If you have done some quant stuff in ur MSF ,you might be a good candidate for them.
Thanks for the comments guys. Now with prop trading, am I going to have to put up my own money to do it, and can I do all of this from my house? I've never really done much research into it, but it seems like something I would be interested if not for anything else but to gain experience in the markets.
bank traders usually means: 1) selling shares to some customer for a cut or fee. 2) market making this is buying low selling high
prop trading means buying selling shares/instruments with firm's own money. The best traders go into prop trading. AFAIK it's very difficult to get in coz all traders want it. It's pure speculation and performance while others trading positions are subject to pressure/limits imposed by some illiterate MBA.
Anyway traders compares to sport professionals, very competitive and quick to exploit opportunties.
In my view, you are not one (which is good in my view). If you get interviews than I would say your CV is quite good, maybe you interview skills are not good. You could try to ask explicitly why the rejected.

Tulane blows obviously no job locked down. No undergrad GPA since it's a 3.1, and banks seem to require a 3.5 or else you get dinged. Biology was hard as hell at the school I went to, a top 10 LAC, and I just couldn't pull the grades. Should I include a 3.1? I figure it wasn't relevant for finance jobs.

about your resume, the first experience item is with kaplan...how does that even fit within your story? In fact, look at all your experience and how does all of what you listed help your story when you're applying for the job you want?
Also, all those bullet points under Kaplan suck...I could've told you that you did all those things in that job just by reading the description...in general, your bullets sound like a job description - not good...for example, you held office hours and graded tests - so what....also, you "helped maintain" a database...did you maintain it, or just help maintain it?
Also, pay attention to your hyphens...they are inconsistent and show a lack of attention to detail, however minor that may seem...
Also, computer skills you have Microsoft office...for some reason, that seems like a very freshman in college thing to say...
"privately tutor"....privately is not parallel...
Best advice is to beef up your experience - I think it'd be hard to spin Kaplan Tutor into Investment Banker...
