Please Review My Resume - Looking into corporate finance, investment banking, and consulting

Hey everyone, I'm new to this site and wondering if anyone would be willing to look at my resume. I'm looking into corporate finance, investment banking, and consulting.

From a consulting standpoint, this is too "transactional" of a resume. You talk about the physical stuff that you did -- prepare powerpoints, doing research, etc., but they won't really care. Consulting recruiters care about IMPACT. You want to show initiative as well as leadership.

Your bullets should all include, if not lead with, a statement of impact, such as generating revenue for a client, or some other tangible, measurable thing that you did. (Similar to what you have in your ECs about improving your team's record to 11/6).

That's my 2 cents for consulting -- don't know about finance/banking. I'd imagine you'll need separate resumes for each.

Taking a quick glance,

  1. From a formatting standpoint your resume needs to be pretty much entirely changed. Nothing pops, nothing draws your attention around - it looks like a poorly constructed essay outline. Sections just flow into each other, and, frankly, the 30 seconds or so a resume gets from reviewers will probably be used just trying to figure it out, not reading what you actually have. The resume is much too jumbled together and needs to be cleaned up - honestly though, this isn't that hard to do and you should be able to work this out very nicely yourself. Additionally, you need some bullet points in there for your points, text distinguishing features and so forth so that it doesn't all look like a big run-on thought. Finally, I'm sure you just cut this out, instead of simply blacking it out, but you need your name and contact info in that resume.

  1. Regarding content, a bunch of your bullet points can be cut out (ex. commuted... - no one really cares about that point - bankers want to see what you did, how you did it and the impact made). The rest of your bullet points need to be punched up and edited to show the impact that your contributions made to the team, the skill set you picked up, and how you went about accomplishing your projects.

I'm sorry to be harsh (and I am not in any way trying to insult you), but bottom line, you've got some solid content and decent experience, but right now, no one will know that, no one will really be able to effectively make their way through your resume, and those that do, won't see much quality there because you haven't really sold the majority of your experiences and projects well. I'd recommend a resume revision - whether from me or someone else is your call, but I would definitely recommend you get one to be able to take advantage of your experiences. Good luck and if you have any further questions, shoot me an email or PM me.
