Resume / Qualification related questions

Edit:

I wonder about the following and appreciate any help:

How can I make sense of the following mappings:

requirements at Job -> job descriptrion -> resume - skills I have

I mean, requirements of the job are like: - excellent communicaiton skills - advanced excel VBA - programming Python, C/C++ - background in this and that

Well, I don't have any experience in the field. So I just wonder, what these terms mean.

Most of my knowledge is textbook knowledge, since I don't usually use excel for my personal issues.

I program for about 12 years in various languages, but have not held any job that would require me to use these skills.

If I don't know what is required in the first place, I can't really write down that I have advanced VBA skills. For example. I have written VB applications in my middle school days but did not work with VB since that, rather writing in C# or .Net languages. When it comes to Python, I use it for web-retrieval modules, but most of my algorithms and data-processing is in C++.

So the point I want to make is, while I have experience in most stuff that I find in job postings, I don't know if they match what is required and hence I don't know what kind of level I am to put down.

Am I basic, because I have no experience in the field? Or advanced? Personally I would require myself to be fluent in writing code in these language without any outside reference text or web ressource, but I usually write code with many books aside and always posting questions on the efficiency of my algorithms on fora.

So, regarding the mapping mentioned above: How can I make sure I understand what is meant by the job postings and how can I prevent myself from under-/overselling myself.

Sorry if this is a dumb question .

you have crappy communication skills, according to this post sir.

The moral of the story is dont worry, be happy.

Still not sure if I want to spend the next 30+ years grinding away in corporate finance and the WSO dream chase or look to have enough passive income to live simply and work minimally.

Your format is a hundred kinds of fucked up dude and actually, maybe it isn't your format just the fact that your activities and interests section is over half the page...weird

Of course I had. But nothing relevant. (nothing in banking) And if it was slightely relevant (short term intern at consulting company and some weird job at a communication consulting company where we could work at night) I don't have references . So I put it into the activities section.

And I have been more of a theoretical guy. I tried to start up twice with an IT company, but first time the team fell apart for various personal reasons and the second time our financer was dropping out because he found someone else with a similar idea and a more experienced team..so yep, there's no job experience... ^^

no no no...there is job experience dude...tons of it you just have to put that shit into writing. you interned somewhere and that needs to be on there as well as your work starting those companies...all that shit is important

Well , I thought failing to start up is not really a good sign ... and also I can't provide any reference, so I can't prove anything... So what is the point of writing it down?

And the short term internship was really only 2 weeks, where one week was spent travelling and talking to people that did not understand what our team was doing ^^... and the media consulting company wanted me for a year and I quit on the last day of my trial period after 3 months which is why they did not want to give me a reference...

So i thought I'd rathern ot put in in there..

Here's the reality of your situation....either put down some of that shit or get an internship TOMORROW to fill that work experience gap. The way that it is now looks weird and you need some tangible experience on there in some capacity

You are probably right. I have applied for a bunch of internships and am waiting for replies currently. And I might put some stuff on there, right. :)

Thanks for your valuable contributions all. It's 5:30 am here. I guess I'll have to catch a short nap. ^^ Have a nice saturday evening/night.

Cheers

Anyone still there? I want to use this CV later today when filing an application and would truly appreciate any further criticism and suggestions.
