Rising Junior Resume Review

Hey guys,

Since it's never too soon to start polishing your resume for next summer, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind reviewing mine? Feel free to tear it apart. Candid, but constructive advice is what I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance,

Maximus

I'm guessing you were in the GS Spring program. I can understand wanting that to be first, but it is confusing that it's above a more recent experience (same goes for the school activities that are -present but below finished experiences). You might want to create a "relevant experience" section or something like it that will rectify this. Also, you could break up work and leadership, which is a suggestion I got.

Also, for experiences that were under one month you can probably just put MONTH YEAR as opposed to MONTH YEAR - MONTH YEAR

The only thing I'd suggest is taking out the part about researching MBS for short term investment ideas. Personally I'd play it safe and not put MBS anywhere near my resume. But damn good resume, much better than mine is now with a full time job.

Ya guilty as charged. I was in the GS program, but I was advised by several people in IBD/S&T to put it first, despite disrupting the chronological order, since it was the best part of my resume. I considered splitting up the giant "work & leadership" section, but that would force me to reduce the font and margins to keep everything on one page.

I am thinking of cutting my "investment analysis/job shadowing" experience since it was also only a week long. However, I want to emphasize what little finance experience I have had, especially since my experience this summer was not finance-related. I also want to keep both student leadership experiences because they have both been great interview talking points so far. Would it be ok to just have GS, Math Research, and then the two student groups in that one section?

As for the date format, I wanted to keep it consistent even though I admit it looks kind of weird. I could go either way on this one.

Furious, I guess I did get ahead of myself a bit on the MBS. I'll think of a way to rephrase that bullet so I won't fall into any interview traps.

Any other suggestions?

I go to a similar target with Econ being the closest major to the real world biz, so i understand that you took entrepreneurship at the Grad B-School? Also, prey- how is linear algebra or analysis relevant? It signals mathematical acumen, sure, but I though "relevant" meant transferrable.

And instead for Job Shadowing intern, I would go for Extern.

Good luck.

I took entrepreneurship as part of our pseudo-business minor program called "markets and management studies," which was definitely a breath of fresh air after dealing with all the theory of econ.

I put up some of the more relevant math classes I've taken because I thought it would look better when applying for S&T positions (my main interest), since math/prob/stats knowledge and ability is key there. Also, linear algebra is very applicable when it comes to topics like multi-factor models of expected asset returns, when CAPM doesn't show the whole story. I won't go into details but it's actually pretty cool to see how the math works underneath it all. Maybe I'll just change it to "coursework" instead of "relevant coursework" to cut out the ambiguity.

Thanks for the input.
