Target Junior Resume for S&T...Looking for any help I can get at this point
Hey guys, I'm a junior going to any ivy league school and have good grades, but pretty much no related experience so I'm looking for any last-minute suggestions you guys have for my resume since I'm not exactly comfortable with it right now. Thanks for any help!
Stick with past tense (cf. Investment Club)
I think you should be fine since you go to a target, have high GPA and SAT scores, and have arguably relevant finance internships. That's basically all that matters to get an interview, hopefully you've studied for the interviews so you can land a full-time offer. The only thing holding you back is the competition you face at Cornell, which you should know a bit better than me.
I've done 2 small IB boutique internships and also interned at a huge multistrategy fund several times. But even with all that experience on my resume, they will take you over me anyday simply because you go to Cornell. You are doing fine my bro.
Looks good. But...
3.9 in AEM and no decent sophomore internship? What the hell did you do last year lol?!
I transferred into AEM so I didn't really have any connections and didn't really know what I wanted to do at that point. Should I definitely change the investment club to past tense even if I'm still in that role?
Any last suggestions?
You're in a decent spot. Re is a deal-based business like ib, the investment club sounds like it's actually fairly legit, and you have experience with financial accounting. Maybe cut down on all of the relevant coursework, or even change those slashes to commas? just from a presentation standpoint. But you have great grades/scores, you'll be near the top of your pool for cornell ocr in that respect. The kids with prior capital markets/ib/pwm experience will be a cut above you, but depending on how big cornell ocr is, you have a good shot. good luck
edit: forgot to say, on the topic of s&t, there are some fairly epic cuts already happening and coming down the pike (just take a look at dealbreaker) with the volcker rule coming into play banning prop trading at SIFIs. look into prop firms like SIG, which has a very extensive intern program, and HFs, in addition to your normal s&t search, both for sa and ft. also, look at energy trading, if you're willing to intern in texas, cause that is still a growth area in some respects (talk to monty09 for more). cause the volcker rule basically eliminates positional fixed income/derivative trading, and regulates market making to a fair extent (the only exception to this is for treasuries trading).
