BB IB firm sending you to BS for an MBA (Europe)

Hi Guys!

Here are three facts of which i'm pretty sure their right:

1. In the top-MBA programs, you only get in after some years of work experience.
2. After doing an MBA you start on the associate level in an IB firm. 3. When you start right after university in an IB firm you start as an analyst and after three years you go on to be an associate.

In other words there is no reason for doing an MBA after 3 analyst years if you want to be an associate.

Now here is my question. Are there BB IB's that send their analysts to do an MBA, just like strategy consulting firms do? (Any difference between USA and Europe?)

Thanks!

I've heard that Barclays has a deal where you basically sign an offer before entering your MBA program for an associate position but Barclays still doesn't pay for the MBA. I know some MMs will pay for MBA but I've never heard of a BB doing it.

Also remember that at some banks it is almost impossible to make the analyst to associate jump. Moreover an MBA has other value such as expanding your network considerably (this will help when you're a VP/MD and need to start sourcing deals) and giving you more options should you ever decide to leave banking.

No. Just check Columbia Business School MBA career report. You will see there were no people attending the program that received sponsorship from BB. I know, that is a single school, it is not statistical relevant, etc. but since Columbia is one of the best school for Finance and it has a huge mba class, I think it can well respect the overall trend... which is that BB do not sponsor MBA.

Also, note that you can turn this "In other words there is no reason for doing an MBA after 3 analyst years if you want to be an associate." into "there is no reason for wasting 3 years as an analyst if you want to be an associate and you can get into a top MBA program"...

I'm grateful that I have two middle fingers, I only wish I had more.
