Bocconi

Im considering attending bocconi for undergrad and am wondering how feasible it is to graduate from Bocconi undergrad, do IB/MBB in London for 2-3 years and exit to an American office, either in MBB, PE, or Corp Strat? I am an American citizen btw.

Is Bocconi a London Target? Im assuming its a non target for nyc.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:

  • Bocconi University is generally considered a strong target for London investment banking (IB) and management consulting (MBB) roles. Many graduates from Bocconi successfully secure positions in these fields in London.

  • Feasibility of Transitioning to the U.S.:

    • IB/MBB in London: Working in London for 2-3 years in IB or MBB can provide you with significant experience and a strong resume, which can be beneficial when transitioning to roles in the U.S.
    • Exit Opportunities: After gaining experience in London, transitioning to an American office in MBB, Private Equity (PE), or Corporate Strategy (Corp Strat) is feasible, especially since you are an American citizen. Your citizenship can simplify the process of moving back to the U.S. for work.
  • Target Status:

    • London: Bocconi is considered a target school for London, meaning it is well-regarded and many firms actively recruit from there.
    • New York City (NYC): Bocconi is generally seen as a non-target for NYC, meaning it may be more challenging to secure roles directly in NYC without additional networking or experience.

Coming from an incoming Bocconi finance major that's also a US citizen, it's pretty tough to get a job straight out of undergrad unless ur top bucket at Bocconi and multilingual (key for london IB). That's just the nature of EU universities, as your competition is masters students at LBS and even Bocconi. Not to mention that needing a work visa will add to the difficulty of employment

Since you don't have to worry about H1B, another approach could be to try for the best MFin programs in the US (Princeton, MIT) as Bocconi grads with top grades do place quite considerably there from what I've seen on LinkedIn.

Generally, go to school where you want to work.

Going to Italy because you want to work in London to get to USA, is a choice...

Agree with the other commentor, hard to do as a monolingual english speaker versus all the italians, even harder to do straight from undergrad in a sea of masters students.

If you're not living in America rn the decision might change a bit but otherwise sticking to USA is prob the easier path.
