Bocconi Msc in Finance : Profile Evaluation and Advice
Hello,
I am an Industrial Engineering Student in France and I would like to know what are the requirements for Bocconi University (Msc in Finance).
Profile :
- Non EU Citizen
- Languages: Arabic, French, English and Spanish (Intermediate Level)
- GPA : 27-28/30 (Italian GPA)
- Semester Abroad in the USA (SUNY BUFFALO) ( courses taken : Microeconomics, International Business, Culture and Business.... GPA:3,74/4)
- Lived in 3 Countries
- Volunteering work in a polling station
- French Dipôme D'ingénieur in Industrial Engineering (The University in known in France but not that much in Europe, we still have double degree programs with top american Universities like Georgia Tech, Michigan , Winsconsin ...)
- 2 Internships ( 6 months in a leading aerospace company and 6 months in a leading cosmetics company)
- Founder and Co-Organizer of the first TEDx Event within my University
- Recommendation letter from the head of the Industrial Engineering department within my university
I am targeting at least 100 for the toefl and 320 -330 for the GRE (going to take the exam soon)
I would like to know if it's hard to get in Bocconi (Msc In finance) ?
Moreover, which school do you think would be best for me and how do you think my chances are of getting in?
Thanks
What's a "320 -330 for the GRE (going to take the exam soon)" in GMAT?
Hi Matrick,
It's between 680 and 730
Definitely apply to Bocconi then. The higher your GMAT, the better obviously (if you're above 700, they will give you a merit scholarship, that covers the full first year tuition and also second if you maintain a certain GPA).
Besides that:
They don't care about not being a EU citizen. The language profile is interesting because may be more employable in London/outside Italy. GPA should be inline with expectations, semester abroad is decent. Lived in 3 countries, fits the rest of your profile. Bocconi likes engineering backgrounds that want to do finance, so you're good there, too. Internships don't matter to them for someone with your background. Recommendation letter looks good, but not sure if you will need two.
In summary, get a GMAT as close to or above 700 as possible, write an outstanding personal statement why you want to enroll in that program and how Bocconi will help you achieve your goals and make you the happiest person on the planet and you're in.
Agree with everything Matrick has said, definitely apply to Bocconi. On my personal statement I spoke about my career goals in depth and that seemed to work well for all the schools I applied to. (eg. I want to work in PE ---> I am interested in PE because...---->I've spoken to many people experienced in the field in depth and IB first is the advice I received----> therefore I want to recruit for IB directly out of the MSc program and work there for a few years first).
If you do well on the GRE consider applying to HEC Paris as well, especially if you are fluent in French.
Hi econecon101, I will definitely follow your advice. I am also reading the Intelligent Investor and Security Analysis ( by Benjamin Graham) to enhance my knowledge in finance but I don't know if there are good books to start with (Any advice ? ). Well French is my native language as well as arabic. I feel that Bocconi is more prestigious than HEC Paris on the trading floors (IB , S&T) , HEC is more focused on corporate finance (M&A i guess).
Are u a Bocconi Alumni by the way ?
Check pm.
I did the program, too. Feel free to PM if you have any further questions.
Since you're interested in enhancing your finance knowledge I would recommend getting your hands on a couple models (from simple statements to more elaborate DCF/LBO) and play around. It will complement the theory quite well.
Hello, I'm from Europe and I think that HEC is more prestigious than Bocconi. Maybe not in Italy, but it is in the rest of Europe. Do you think I have a chance to enter Bocconi MIM with 640 GMAT and 7.3/10 GPA (still top 10% of my class). I know is not the best profile to enter, but maybe I still have a chance. I have done an internship at the second larger bank of my country and many extracurricular activities, like founding an important club in my uni.
Thanks
Do you mean you want to apply to HEC for their Master in Management?
I mean Bocconi MIM.
Any Bocconi applicants that can give an estimate of the waiting times? I've applied roughly ~5/6 weeks ago and yet to hear back from them.
Masters in SDA Bocconi (Originally Posted: 06/28/2017)
Hello everyone! In the next year I want to apply to masters in SDA Bocconi( MIM; MM;CEMS) and I have several of questions. 1. What the main criteria for Bocconi?( GMAT; Motivational letter; GPA or internship?) 2. Will my internships help me( EY TAS; PE fund)? 3. Another activities( sports; volunteer)? 4. What do I need for merit based scholarships? Thanks for all!
SDA Bocconi is different from Bocconi. If you are interested in Management, CEMS, Finance etc. you are considering Bocconi, not SDA Bocconi. Anyway, they consider GPA/GMAT more than extra curricular activities or sports. For merit based scholarships you need high GPA and GMAT. They have a lot of offers. Your profile is good, score a good GMAT and you'll be fine
thank you! But I have another question: GPA: 4.0/5.0(Russia; Lomonosov MSU; my weakness);GMAT >700 will good for merit based scholarship? (EY TAS; PE Fund; basketball team and volunteer)
Hello fellow monkeys,
I also have a question regarding my profile for Bocconi (MSc Finance). I am planning to apply for next year's intake (Sep. 2018).
I am an Engineering student in an emerging market, from a top engineering university (known locally but unknown abroad). My graduation is planned to happen in mid-2017.
Profile :
- 22 y.o. (will be 23 when applying)
- EU Citizen (Italian), with dual citizenship
- Languages: Portuguese, English, German, Italian (basic)
- GPA : 7.6/10 (probably equal to 3.05/4)
- Scholarship withholder for giving free courses of robotics to children from public schools
- Experience abroad: International german summer course in a German university, duration of 1 month
- 2 Internships: 2 years in a multinational manufacturer and 1.5 years in one largest communication companies in the country (none of them was finance related)
- Member of the university's finance and investment club
- Experience managing my own and family's investments
Regarding GMAT, I am planning to get 650+ (not taken yet). For the TOEFL, it would have to be 100+.
I would like to know if you think my profile is viable for Bocconi's MSc Finance. I would appreciate any comments or sugestions aswell.
Thanks!

Hello all,
I am fairly new to the website so my apologies if this is in the wrong section. I am a recent graduate from a small college in NY and have been working for the past 7 months. Due to Visa limitations (foreign student from Italy who came on an F-1), there is a possibility that in May of this year I will have to go back home. My employer said they would help out with the H1-B, however as some of you may know it isn’t guaranteed that you receive it. As a result, I have been planning for a potential Plan B in the eventuality that my H1-B is not approved to remain working here in the US. Being from Italy and having spent 5 years away from home, I’d be keen to pursue a Masters in Finance at Bocconi as it places well and is overall a good program. I would love to hear any advice/constructive criticism as well as my chances to get in given my circumstance:
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has attended Bocconi specifically this program or is currently attending I’d love to hear your experience. If anyone has any insights to when the application process for the 2018-2019 period begins that would also be a help since I have not been able to find anything on their website.
Thanks
pierfranci1, sorry there are no responses yet. Maybe one of these topics can point you in the right direction:

I hope those threads give you a bit more insight.
All depends on your gmat. Get something above 700/720 and you’ll get in for sure. Applications usually start in fall with the last round for Bocconi running until end of June.
