CFA- Level Dos

Who's been getting after it?

I heard that Schweser isn't in-depth enough; nearly finish the fixed income section and haven't uncovered anything substantially groundbreaking. Maybe I'll bite my tongue after wrapping up the valuation section.

Anyways, interested to hear what works well, what doesn't, and how everyone's faring.

Also, for those of you in ER- have you found your background helpful? Being that you're at least familiar with some concepts I'd think you'd have some sort of advantage.

I never took Level Dos but I did pass Level 2 on the first attempt using Schweser exclusively. In retrospect, at least reviewing the CFAI blue box questions may have been helpful but who knows. I do think that CFAI reviews the Schweser materials and then chooses a few topics that Schweser may have failed to cover in detail. For example, I found Schweser to be a little week in portfolio management based on the content of the exam.

If you work in ER you should have a pretty good handle on FRA, equity valuation, etc. My weakest areas were QM and Econ. Ethics, which is generally pretty easy as it generally requires memorization/simple application, was a bit more difficult on the actual exam. Good luck to you.

Hey- thanks. Various people have suggested supplementing the actual CFAI text, not looking fwd actually cracking those books open. I'll be mindful of this, def a great pointer.

Not exactly in ER per se, but rather something comparable but slightly less intense. Seemed logical as was definitely strong in these subjects for the first exam. Econ is god awful, period.

Anyways, I appreciate the insight. Best of luck on the 3rd exam if you're taking it in June.

I did schweser for level 2 and passed on the first attempt. It's more than enough to get you through it. Don't waste your time with the CFA books. Schweser is worth it.
