Emory Goizueta MBA (half scholarship) vs Texas McCombs MBA (no scholarship)

Any alumni out there who can talk on merits of attending one or the other? I am really torn because I like the culture of UT but hard to leave money on the table. Please let me know your thoughts. The difference in cost of attendance is roughly $40k. Thanks!

Where do you want to work and what do you want to do? Without knowing this it will be hard to give you meaningful advice.

I would eventually like to land in the West Coast but I don't mind spending a few years in either Dallas/Houston or Atlanta markets if I can't find a job out west right away. Ideally would go into consulting but would like to explore tech/finance if that doesn't work out. Also, I studied engineering for undergrad at a public university so I am not sure how private school life would be at Emory.

I know that both schools are regional but is it possible to network out of that region? I guess I am looking for any type of information from professionals, current b-school students, and prospective students. Thanks for pointing out my error.

Consulting, at least T2, shouldn't be a problem from either school, but the firm will likely want to place you in either Texas or Atlanta. It will then be up to you to get yourself to a Cali office after a couple years.

Just from the publicly available stats, UT places much better in tech. It's certainly possible to network outside the region. I would bet you will probably find less Emory tech folks on the west coast than you will Longhorns so it would make it harder. I can't really speak to the culture of either school, so I'll leave that to others.

Whether those pluses for UT are worth $40k is up to you.
