ESSEC MIF or Bocconi MSc Fin + full scholarship
I've been accepted both to the ESSEC MIF programme and the Bocconi MSc Finance programme (Global Experience Track), the latter with a full scholarship. I'm torn between the two because on the one hand, I'd like to work in London as I don't speak French nor Italian (Dutch citizen though), which I've heard Bocconi is better for, but on the other hand Bocconi's programme is known for being very theoretical/difficult and I might not have as much time to apply to internships and jobs. This matters to me since I don't have any relevant experience in finance and I'd like to get as much as possible ASAP. Internship wise, ESSEC seems to be better as it requires two internships in each of the two years during the programme, whereas Bocconi only requires one at the end of the second year. The ESSEC trip to London looks interesting too. Of course, I could always apply during my first year at Bocconi but as mentioned before this could be hard to balance with the programme's workload. Should I go with ESSEC or take the full scholarship and go with Bocconi? My goal is to work in Asset Management but I'm not dead set on that. I'm currently studying at King's College London (most likely graduating with a strong first-class) if that's relevant at all.
Go to Bocconi stronger theoretical base :)
That's like asking do I get a fully insured Ferrari or a Citroën diesel.
Bocconi easy. Essec has been dropping hard in placements.
Would you say it's too late for someone who is gonna be 24 next year to start Bocconi MSc Finance in Sept 2026? I would be 26 at the time of graduation.
Not at all. It's still in the expected range
Current MiF Student at ESSEC here, so I‘d be happy to answer any questions you have. That being said, placement has been getting worse in recent years. Still, quite a lot of people who want to break into London managed to land interviews (though mainly MM; only a handful of students got BB invitations). Most converted those interviews, but tbf that’s not related to the university in my opinion. Nevertheless, it shows that ESSEC still gets you an invitation in London. In France, placement is much better, though still subpar compared to HEC and ESCP, but without speaking French, that’s irrelevant anyway.
What’s definitely good about ESSEC, though, is that it’s extremely easy. Exams aren’t difficult at all, so your academic work will be much lower than at Bocconi, meaning you can get better grades while focusing on actually landing a job. Still, if I were in your shoes, I’d probably go with Bocconi tbf.
