Georgetown vs Cornell

Hey everyone, I recently committed to Georgetown MSB but just got off the waitlist at Cornell for Economics and Mathematics (College of Arts & Sciences). Now I’m stuck trying to decide what’s the better option. My goal is to work in NYC investment banking or consulting after undergrad. Georgetown MSB has really strong recruiting and feels like a direct path into business, but Cornell has the Ivy League name and stronger overall prestige (i think??). That said, econ at Cornell doesn’t have the same structured recruiting as MSB, so I’m not sure if it’s worth the trade-off. I’d love to hear what people think about recruiting differences, long-term value of the school names, alumni networks, and maybe even the social scene. Would really appreciate any advice on whether it’s worth switching from Georgetown MSB to Cornell Econ. Thank you so so much!!

Where would yall go same cost?

In terms of IB/Finance; no difference in chances of getting interviews for any firm you want.

Things to consider;
- At Georgetown, you can transfer easily to CAS and study Economics, etc there as well.
- Do you want a smaller school and urban setting or larger, almost public school sizing in rural setting?
- You will likely know a much larger portion of your class at GT vs Cornell / do you mind the difference in size?
- The only other consideration is that if you do not want to do banking / finance, Cornell network would provide a much larger reach should you want to join any type of tech / venture type start-up, etc. where you could find lots of the CS/Engineering alumni.

Don’t let this be a difficult choice, go with what you feel most comfortable and excited about.

Recruited out of Cornell this year. Undergad school school doesn't matter, and CAS econ will set you up perfectly fine. People break into any bank of consulting shop you can name with zero pre-existing connections. My friends at Georgetown say a lot more of their offers are nepo (wealthier student body than Cornell)

School prestige isn’t 1-to-1 correlated with IB recruiting at all. People on Wall Street will know both schools well. The sooner you can stop worrying about prestige in life the better.

How much financial aid are you getting at each? If equal, then Cornell is higher prestige, but I will say everyone I know from Cornell has a chip on their shoulder from having attended the worst ivy. Ithaca is also very different than DC

Congratulations, you got into some top programs. You can't go wrong with either path. Enjoy.

Thank you so much. Where would you go if you had these two option? Just curious.

Cornell

Personally would go with Cornell for the ivy league branding but all 3 are great schools and the differences in recruiting are negligible.
