Good master of finance programs
Hello, I'm from a low target school in CA. I am a sophomore studying accounting. I am thinking of getting a Masters of Finance right after undergrad(assuming I graduate in 4 years). Anyone tell me which schools are good for Master of Finance. So far I have thought about Vanderbilt and Duke.
I have considered transferring out to a target school, but I have hit some bumps that my chances are getting low and Im planning to apply just for kicks. These bumps made me to decide to go to community college next semester and then either go back or transfer out.
I do know that some schools want experience or some schools don't require it. I know Vandy and Duke are good, but I am wondering if I can get into these programs through athletics? Assuming I graduate in 4 years, I have one year of athletic eligibility left meaning I can use it when I go to graduate school. Is it possible for me to get into a good master of finance program through athletics? Thanks
I would like to work at Wall Street after getting my Masters of Finance by doing IB. Please understand that I may not know much because I go to a no good business school and I'm trying to learn this on my own.
I don't believe Duke offers a MSF but they do offer a MMS... and as far as I have read about MSFs, it sounds like where you want to end up region-wise is where you should look at going to school
Oops my bad. Ya I meant MMS. But thanks for the advice
Since you are still young/have time before you graduate, I recommend trying to transfer to a target as you mentioned. Even better would be to try to network now and try to find some relevant finance or banking internships under your belt. In the end, experience triumphs schooling. Also, you got to remember going to a MSF program will set you back an additional 50k or so. It would be more financially prudent to just give it your best shot now and really put yourself out there rather than think about MSFs now. Think of it more as a plan c, with plan a+b to network/intern or transfer.
To answer your question about athletics, I have personally never heard of them offer acceptance or scholarships based on that. Even if they offer it, I would advise against it as I've heard that these programs can have heavy workloads. Plus, you would/should be spending your spare time looking for jobs and interviewing when in a MSF program.
Yes the plan is to apply and see what happens, which is a+b as plan C is get a MSF or MMS. The good thing about going to CC for one semester is that I'll be attending a quarter system school, which helps me get most things done. By transferring out, I will need to complete few Ges before the upper division which i can take during the summer and then focus on upper division. If i go back, I get many things done and Im on pace to grad in 4 years. At transfer school, maybe 4.5 or 5 at worst. The worst thing that can happen to me is that my time at CC doesn't go well for the first 2 weeks prompting me to go back to my school.
Yes I do plan to network. I plan to join a business fraternity wherever I go. The school I go to is good for engr. The business school is okay. Its well known for accounting where its close by to Big 4. A good finance job will be hard to get, which my only chance is get a job at JP Morgan Chase or Morgan Stanley which there is a branch near by my school.
I know that athletics will look good on me. I understand your point, but I'm in a situation where I need athletics to cover my fees.
As you said, I have time. Right now what I should focus on is apply to those schools, do well in CC assuming that I stay for the semester as i get shit done. And then see whether I go to plan a+b or go to plan c
bumppppp
Master of Finance at MIT Sloan School of Management is quite good.
