High School Junior in Northeast Looking For Business Schools

Hey WSO,

This is my first post on WSO, how exciting! Anyways, I'm a 16 year old junior in high school, and I am totally going into a finance or economics major in college. Since you are all either in business school or established in the field, I thought you guys could give me some pretty good advice. I'll just list my creds here first:

4.42 GPA (I think 4th in my class or something?) Cross Country, Winter Track, Spring Track Possible internship at tax/accounting firm Working on finance website/blog Invest in the stock market - $500 account Associate president International Club, School Council (3 kids that meet with principal), and NEASC (one student in school assists company in accrediting the high school) Attending Bentley Wall Street 101 this summer

Those are just some details about my extracuriculars and grades and stuff so far in high school.

The schools I'm interested in are:

Bentley University (Waltham, MA) Northeastern University (Boston, MA) Boston University (Boston, MA) Brown University (Providence, RI) ---- this is a very far reach school but I would love to go there!

I really don't know too much about colleges and how their business programs are, but if any of you guys have attended these schools or any business school and could help me out, that'd be awesome, thanks. And also, what my chances at any of these colleges might be.

Thanks,

Matt

Do some searching around the website about target and semi-target schools and make a list of 10-15 schools to apply to. Try to get a 2000+ on the SAT. You have good stats man.

  1. Never, ever use "totally" if it has no meaning in a sentence. It looks even worse when you use it in writing.
  2. Of the schools you listed, Brown is obviously the best, but if you don't get in there, either Northeastern or Boston are good. Don't go to Bentley.
  3. Consider applying to other schools as well, including, but not limited to, University of Michigan, Notre Dame, University of Virginia, University of North Carolina, and Emory.
  4. For now, your main focus should be on continuing to get good grades and getting a high SAT/ACT score.

a good list to work with, is Poets & Quants MBA Ranking. dont' worry about MBA or whatever:

For each school within top 20-25, they're great schools (even if they don't offer undergrad programs) within top 50, there're still a lot of value schools on undergrad level, also possibly more reputable in other disciplines.

Definitely look into the top 20-25 undergrad business schools. A simple google search will come up with a bunch of results. If there are alumni from your school who have gone to any of those schools (and into fields you're interested in), don't be afraid to reach out to them and see what their experiences were like. Ask whoever is in charge of alumni relations for help finding them. If you do end up doing this, first google and read as much as you can so you can have an intelligent conversation when you end up talking to them. Even if you just search and skim through WSO for a couple hours ... I can't stress enough how helpful that can be.

And, not to sound like a dick, but Gangster Putin is completely correct. Please do NOT use "totally" in a sentence.

Maximum effort.
