How to determine between Finance and Engineering for a career?

As the title says, what are some of the big picture differences/personality aspects that differentiate between a sucessful a career in finance (thinking of IB) vs. success in continuing what I am doing (oil and gas field services) as a career?

I have always been curious about continuing my education via an MBA, and have not totally ruled it out yet. While the learning curve in the field I am currently in is enjoyable, I'd like to think about other careers as well before fully making a decision. I highly value technical expertise, so I am willing to fully consider the question of 'why' before I make a decision at work.

But in general, what are the high level differences between finance and engineering?

Thank you in advance.
