HSG - is it worth it for foreign students?

Hello everyone. I’m currently on track to get my bachelors from Warsaw School of Economics by 2028 (best public business school in Poland).

I’m thinking of moving to Switzerland for masters at HSG (banking and finance). I heard that if you are not French or German you will not be able to find a job there and integrate with other people.

Would like to hear your input on this.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, pursuing a Master's at HSG (University of St. Gallen) can be a strong choice for foreign students, but there are important factors to consider:

  1. Job Market and Work Permits: While HSG has a strong brand and excellent placement in Swiss banking jobs, securing a work permit in Switzerland can be challenging for non-EU students. However, HSG's reputation can open doors in Germany and other European countries if Switzerland doesn't work out.

  2. Integration Challenges: It's true that language and cultural integration can be hurdles. If you're not fluent in German or French, it might limit your networking opportunities and social integration. However, HSG's international reputation and alumni network can still provide valuable connections.

  3. Alternative Options: If you're concerned about integration and work permits, you might consider other programs like FSFM in Frankfurt. Germany offers easier work permit processes, and FSFM is known for being generous with scholarships. Additionally, HSG's strong brand could still help you secure opportunities in Germany if needed.

Ultimately, HSG is worth it if you're prepared to navigate the challenges of integration and work permits, and if you're open to leveraging its brand for opportunities beyond Switzerland.
