Landing a good job while in B-school, how much do these factors matter?

1) Your relationship with the career services office and people working there
2) Your relationship/reputation among peer students or cohort

Speaking as a consultant intern currently at a top(ish) MBA school:

Your relationship any of those groups of people is only as good as your ability to use their help effectively. These groups will both have a ton of resources and time to help you perfect your candidacy. Workshops/resume writing, mock interviews, etc are all extremely helpful. At any top school however, the career services office will have formal plans for this as well as getting you in front of prospective companies. I at least did not have to make any personal connections to utilize them. However you should also cultivate a trusted group of peers to help you along as well.

Career services probably don't have any "ins" for people that they consider good pals, but both their help and your peers help will make you the best candidate possible. Your friends however, might have "ins" and you should use those too.

Hey William,

Thanks for the response. How could it negatively impact you on the opposite side if you don't have a good relationship?
