M7 Profile?
Hi all, I'd like to have your views on my chance to get into MBA business schools">M7 B-school after a 2-year Fixed income trading analyst program at a BB (GS,MS,JPM) . I have a B.S. at an ivy school with 3.8 GPA and 750 GMAT.
I am not sure if 2 years of working experience can be enough to get me into a top MBA program. My other option is to work in London or Hong Kong for a couple of years and apply for B-school afterwards.
Thank you in advance.
I'm hoping an Ivy League graduate with a 3.8 GPA and 750 GMAT is capable of using the search function. Otherwise, I'd say your chances look pretty slim.
Thank you Lou. I did some search as you suggested and found my case fairly specific, compared to many existing posts. But thanks anyway.
Again, your story is unique at all. A friend in a similar situation as you, did completed a 2 year S&T (FI) program at GS/MS/JP after graduating from a target was recently accepted to H/S/W.
There are quite a few of people who are accepted into M7 after completing a 2 year program. Though, gaining more foreign work exposure would obviously distinguish you as a canddiate.
Personal opinion:
Now: lower M7 +1 or 2 years oversea: more chance to HSW
Assuming your rec letter/performance oversea are not worse than current
Scores and GPA is average of top MBAs but 2 years is a bit thin.
Also, you'll be competing with tons of others finance types that have 760+ and 3.9+ GPAs on straight up stats. One way to differentiate yourself is to work in a different country and tie it into your story.
your profile would've been similar to HBS 2+2 admits, going into MBA after 2-3 years; however, I heard 2+2 often have difficulty comparing themselves to more experienced MBA sectionmates.
The MBA is always do able with strong UG & GMAT (check) and solid WE (check). the most important is what you want to do, and how those goals satisfy MBA adcoms.
