MSF step down in pay?
I am looking to transition out of my sales career into corporate finance. While the move is not financially motivated, I am cornered about the financial implications.
After graduating with an MSF degree from say Hopkins, will I likely be looking at an entry level finance job given that I have no experience in finance? I currently make 100k+ and so the thought of pursuing an MSF to get a 60k job and start over, so to speak, seems crazy.
For what it's worth, I have to do a part time online option so it won't be MIT/Vandy caliber.
Definitely going to have to take a step down in pay. MSF programs have relationships with entry level jobs. Probably looking at $50k - $75k.
Msf pay is a function of work experience. The degree doesn't influence your pay at all.
The issue is going to be the comp F500 pays in general and if a hiring manager will see your experience as enough to warrant a senior financial analyst role and the comp that goes with it.
JHU Carey is not yet AACSB accredited, even though they're expected to be soon. students in MSF typically has not much work experiences. if you had a long career in something, you probably want to do MBA to get enough recruiters for experienced candidates. If you want to just save $, you might get underpar treatments as MSF is more like undergrad
Wait, why would you leave a 100k+ job for a 60k job? Or is it for a better lifestyle?
I just don't enjoy selling. I fell into it because I had a worthless major in college. I certainly do not want a 60k job but if I can get an MSF and transition into an office job in finance I think I'd be much happier.
While this thinking may not be on point, I don't want to get an MBA yet as I may want an exec mba from a top20 school down the road.
