Need Advice on Schools
Hi, I was wondering if these schools were above/below/equal to Emory in terms of prestige on Wall Street?
Michigan (Not Ross)
Indiana (Kelley)
Wisconsin
UT-Austin
Vanderbilt
GW
I'm assuming these schools are: (correct me if I'm wrong):
Columbia
Brown
Dartmouth
Georgetown
UVA
Penn
The reason I'm asking is because I want to switch schools, and that's my list of schools. I'm afraid that if I switch to a lesser-regarded school it'll go against me when it comes time to apply for a job.
Thanks
Michigan (Not Ross) - equal Indiana (Kelley) - under unless it's that special banking program they have Wisconsin - same as indiana UT-Austin - only if you're in BHP Vanderbilt - same GW - under
Yes to all below Columbia Brown Dartmouth Georgetown UVA Penn
What's your major?
UT Austin kicks butt for Engineering and Accy. If you're in one of those subjects, I'd transfer to UT. Hell, if you're doing engineering, I'd transfer to UT, forget Wall Street, and think about oilfield engineering.
UMich, Indiana Kelley, and UW are great schools that are a little better than Emory IMHO, but not worth the cost (friends, clubs, leadership experience) of transfer.
GW prolly does a little better on the street than Emory. Again, this is a drive-by estimate, but I think the difference between Vanderbilt and Emory is statistically insignificant. (I am sure I am going to get attacked by V alumns for this.)
granted emory isn't an ivy or a stanford/mit, etc., but you cannot be serious about the quality of the student bodies being superior at indiana, kelley, and uw (i agree with you about ross if you're comparing it to goizueta). i know you'll talk about cost, too, but, because of emory advantage, if OP is broke, he'll be paying close to nothing for college.
disclosure: i got into emory and turned them down.
I have to agree with this. Also, Emory blows GW out of the water if we are talking finance placement. IP, I almost feel like you are confusing Emory with Elon.
My major is finance, and I would like to work in NYC when I graduate (possibly i-banking, not sure yet). This is also a school issue, so I am most likely transferring.
bump
If OP is broke he's prolly not as aware of or interested in banking. Sorry but it has to be said. You don't need a pedigree for this job, but all else being equal, it's good to be from a middle class family that worries about money or a rich family that understands money to know/care about finance.
***Bias alert: I say this as a kid from a family that worried a lot about money- to the point that financial considerations were the deciding factor for a state school over a private university.
I am lucky enough to be able to fully pay, so tuition is not an issue.
