Not sure if this helps but, I know someone who was an big 4 auditor (not sure for how long) and went into a DB group right out of a Cornell MBA. Might be harder without the gap time for an internship an MBA provides.
Edit: Just to add I know for a fact she was interviewing other places like Evercore. International Ugrad.
Meh, I'll be doing MSF not MBA (though it'll be a top tier MSF) and my background isnt in Big 4, so I'm not sure how applicable that is
internship will be a big gap, and MSF will send you towards analyst level when MBAs ship associates. Salary bump for the empty space in-between that may be tougher to fill. your call.
By the way, I wouldn't call Villanova a top MSF program. Honestly, I wouldn't call anything other than MIT MiF a "top MSF". it'd include my MSF alma mater too but probably it's true.
What do you mean, like having an internship would be a big "gap" in my progression? (i.e - full time auditor then suddenly drop my full time job for a 8 week internship before the program). Or do you mean not having one would be a gap in my credentials and hinder recruiting?
Also I think I'm leaning more toward Vandy MSF, it's not MIT but hopefully it'll get me in the IBD door nonetheless
lots of people wants IB, and auditing is not a sales job in heart. so there is a lot of that needed to get an offer.
not having IB/MC could be a gap in recruiting in general, but it honestly depends on what you want to do, because most IB/MC people wants to get out of that space.
Good point, but would having 2 yrs work experience + cpa be enough to give me an edge over kids straight out of undergrad with more relevant short term internships?
And what do you mean most IB people want to get out of that space?
your 2yrs + CPA is fine for ANALYST, and less competitive for post MBA associates. Also they might worry if you find a competitor quickly for MBA-type pay.
Many IBers are two-and-done. they do PE, do MBA and whatever.
ah I see what you mean. So basically if I'm just looking to break in as an analyst at a BB (or even MM or EB) shop, I don't need to stress too much about not having a "finance" internship?
