northwestern vs georgetown SFS vs pomona college

I was recently accepted to these three schools, and I was wondering which schools would provide me with the greatest opportunities into MBB. I'm mainly looking at the NYC and LA/Bay Area offices after graduating, which is why I included Pomona. Also, to my understanding, recruiting at Pomona is slightly less competitive since the other 2 schools simply have more students interested in the field. If I can get into say the LA office at BCG (apparently BCG loves pomona), would I have the ability to transfer to a NYC office later or vice versa with say NU, chicago, and the Bay Area? Also, how much does alumni network matter after the first job?
On a separate note, I don't want to rule out IB either at this stage. Would the school I should select change if I were more interested in IB than consulting? Thanks!

i would say go to the school you want to go to... if youre in 8th grade and youre already thinking about mbb ... i think any of those 3 schools you will have a shot at consulting or banking. just go to the school you actually want to go to.

Ehh I'd actually pick Gtown SFS. SFS is on par with HYP in prestige if I'm not mistaken. And MBB recruits from SFS, not really the rest of Gtown.

Can’t see how that’s true. SFS has the about the same or higher acceptance rate as the rest of Georgetown (14%). SFS has a great international brand, but I cannot imagine it being considered HYP level, or even more prestigious than the rest of Gtown.

With all due respect, I think that’s a huge reach. SFS is certainly prestigious and imo the best school at Georgetown, but it isn’t anywhere near HYP in terms of prestige and selectivity.

If you have justification for your claim besides “do some research” please share

Look, Gtown SFS is a politics school. For politics, it's extremely reasonable to compare it to HYP. It is tied with Harvard for having the most number of alumns in the Senate. For foreign service, it absolutely smokes every single school out there. Harvard Yale and Columbia trail SFS, but they don't even place half of what Gtown places. I get this is WSO and we're talking about finance, but in terms of overall prestige, Gtown SFS takes the cake here easily. People choose SFS over HYP, and that's a simple fact. And yes, please do some research for yourself because obviously you doubt what I'm saying. Hard to convince someone with tunnel vision unless they can see it for themselves.

And also look at Gtown's employment report. SFS places by far the most out of any individual college in GTown at MBB. For OP, this is an absolute no brainer to choose SFS. With the prestige it carries, it can easily get you IB if you wish.

There is definitely truth to what you are saying, but there’s a good case for Northwestern as well. The academic credentials and acceptance rate are the same for SFS as the rest of Georgetown, and McDonough students certainly receive consulting offers although the majority of the school prefers finance. Of course, SFS fares slightly better for MBB. However, it seems like somewhat of an overstatement to say that SFS outperforms the rest of Gtown in this regard.

"Academic credentials are the same for SFS as the rest of Georgetown." That's just simply not true at all. Once again, forget acceptance rate. The quality of students applying to SFS are on a different level than the rest of Gtown. The students who are interested in politics and have a shot at HYP are applying to Gtown SFS hoping to get in. The applicant pool is far stronger than what you would find at MSB/Gtown College, so while they may accept the same number of people, it is much much harder to get into SFS. Also, in 2018, MSB sent 4 kids to Mckinsey/Bain while SFS sent 10. And I would venture on to argue that less people are interested in consulting from SFS seeing as most people go into politics, whereas MSB is, well, a business school.

Funniest

From a fellow gtown alum, shut the fuck up. you sound insecure and frankly autistic. stop making my school look bad

Jesus fucking christ georgetown kid, you should consider comedy

Sorry there are some shitty people on this thread. To answer your inquiries, I believe it is difficult to transfer between locations, esp. west to east coast. It certainly is possible though. Don’t base your decision off of that.

Pomona is obviously a great school; however, given your other two options, I’m not sure if that would be the best move. It somewhat seems like Northwestern will give you more of what you want. In all honesty, it has the most prestige among the three and is also located in an area that will help you get jobs in both the west/east coasts if you want it, with obviously many opportunities for Chicago.

Don’t take anybody’s word for it here. talk to current students and alum if possible.

Controversial

I think you should really choose between NW and Gtown. Anybody telling you NW has more prestige than Gtown is probably a NW alum who is still trying to compensate since he got flat-out rejected from UChicago. As someone who didn't go to either school I think of them as about the same level of elite prestige. For IB, Gtown >>>>>>>> NW. It really isn't close when it comes to IB recruitment as Gtown really does seem to be an IB powerhouse. For consulting, NW will definitely be better, although reading through some of these comments makes me think it won't be better by all that much. I'd probably go to Gtown, but I'm also a sucker for politics related stuff. Good luck!

SFS. You can stand out more as an applicant too. Just study finance on the side to prepare for interviews and leverage the gtown alumni network. Gtown also has more global recognition. Norwestern if you want Chicago and ik Pomona is elite but don’t know much about it. Congrats.

If this was ScienceOasis.com you'd be right because USNEWS is heavily weighted towards science stuff (and I bet Gtown is shit in science). But when you look at Forbes, schools aren't punished as much for being weak in scientific research. So, Georgetown is actually ranked higher than Northwestern. You'd really have to be a non-target prospect if you think there is any real discernible difference in prestige / rep between Northwestern and Georgetown.

i just graduated from pomona. i was accepted into northwestern when i was applying for colleges but decided not to go. in retrospect, however, i'd say that you have a MUCH better chance of getting into consulting with northwestern, which is a big consulting school. pomona doesn't have any pre-professional/career support: there are no career fairs/no employers coming to campus. The IB scene at pomona is even more abysmal. you need to do everything on your own. Pomona doesn't offer any finance classes. I took all my accounting and corporate finance classes at cmc, and trust me i had to beg the professor to get into those classes because "exclusive" cmc simply doesn't want kids from the other 5c schools to get in on their classes, lol. if you're betting on just one company(bcg) and hoping that you'll get in because this company supposedly love pomona, you''ll probably be in for a huge disappointment at the end and face a real hard time finding a job. my advice? don't go to pomona. most graduates go to tech companies, do fellowships/scholarships, go to grad schools/phd porograms. so you go figure.

fellow sagehen here! agree with everything you said, but I do think for people who determined that they wanted to do ibd/consulting even before going to college, finding a job is not gonna be as hard as it is to people like me who realized half way through college and found out that Pomona has basically no resource to help. I, however, did not regret going to pomona because getting a job is only one of my college goals. but for people who prioritze getting a job, i really would not recommend going to pomona. cuz i do believe that after all, recruiting is a numbers game
