Post-MBA Associate Recruiting for Life Sciences IB – Bank Recommendations, Pay, and Culture

I’ll be starting at a top 5 MBA program this fall and am recruiting for investment banking at the associate level. My background is in big pharma, and I’m particularly interested in biopharma/biotech M&A deals.

I’m agnostic to location (NY, SF, Menlo Park, etc.) and am trying to figure out:

  1. Which bulge brackets and elite boutiques have the strongest life sciences coverage (especially biopharma/biotech M&A) and should be top targets for recruiting.
  2. How these banks compare in terms of pay for associates.
  3. Any meaningful differences in culture or hours across the top firms, even though I know the hours will be long everywhere.
  4. If there’s a clear “sweatshop” reputation at any particular bank in this space.

Would appreciate any firsthand insights or comparisons from people in life sciences IB or with friends/colleagues in the space.
