Post MBA Pipeline to USA No Good?
I'm a bit far from the visibility of MBA exits (namely curious about product management and management consulting), but I'd love to see what you've seen or heard on post-MBA exits into the US amid the H1-B changes and pressures in TN visa process.
I had seen that one approach that some firms have implemented is an L1 Visa pipeline where candidates would do a year in their home countries first and then rotate offices.
Based on the most helpful WSO content, the post-MBA pipeline to the U.S. has indeed faced challenges due to changes in the H1-B visa process and pressures on the TN visa. However, some firms have adapted by implementing alternative strategies, such as the L1 Visa pipeline. This approach involves candidates spending a year in their home countries before rotating to U.S. offices.
For management consulting, firms like MBB (McKinsey, BCG, Bain) and other top-tier consultancies often have global mobility programs, which can facilitate such transitions. Consulting remains a strong post-MBA exit option, offering broad and decent exit opportunities at both junior and senior levels.
For product management, the situation can be more complex. While post-MBA roles in product management are common, visa challenges may limit opportunities, especially for non-U.S. candidates. Firms may prioritize candidates with existing work authorization or those who can leverage alternative visa pathways like the L1.
Overall, while the U.S. post-MBA pipeline has become more challenging, firms are finding ways to navigate these hurdles, particularly in consulting. However, candidates should be prepared for potential delays or alternative pathways, such as starting in their home country before transitioning to the U.S.
