Pre MBA Camps
I thought it would be a good idea to start a list of Pre MBA camps / programs. These are a great opportunity in my view and from what I've heard - I'll certainly be applying to a few this year. Please post if you find a link good for 2012 and I'll update the original post to maintain a consolidated list for 2012 programs.
I think it would be helpful to focus on the programs that are open to everyone.
Here's what I've found:
Active:
P&G: http://jobs-pg.com/cincinnati/entry-level-marketi…
Inactive (or last year's link):
Deloitte: http://careers.Deloitte.com/united-states/student…
Bain & Co: no specific listing yet
McKinsey & Co: no specific listing yet
Goldman Sachs: no specific listing yet
Citi: no specific listing yet
HSBC: no specific listing yet

Anyone know if pre-MBA's do the same work as to-be 2nd year students at the internships?
I'm sure they would. Obviously I can't say for sure because I haven't experienced it, but my guess is that they do the same stuff...after all, the intent is to see whether or not you would do a good job and it seems to me that the best way to find that out is to have you do the work.
Ultimately I think it will be hard to get solid answers on because the pre-MBA internships are a pretty new trend, so there aren't a lot of data points. I wish more firms had dedicated programs.

Seems like mostly minority initiatives?
Some yes, but from what I gather (albiet on limited info) more and more of these are open to everyone, especially as the trend grows. I'd like to concentrate on finding info on those programs that are for everyone.
I very highly doubt that only minorities get these positions...or at least, being a minority isn't the primary driver behind the offers for these positions. It seems to me that the minority focus is just a consequence of it being a very fresh market and the need to be exceptionally proactive. The organizations linked above are leveraging their relationships to help minorities...being minorities themselves. Obviously they aren't going to lend a non-minority their network but they had to start somewhere. This means you can replicate, hypothetically, what they've done. The bottom line is you need to work your network early and get people used to the idea of potentially having a pre-MBA intern around.
To me there is little difference to having a pre-MBA intern and a summer associate. In some ways I see having a Pre-MBA intern as a benefit because the business can see what you have to offer and build a relationship early on.
