Prospective UK undergrad courses for non accounting / finance degree
I have a very solid report card, however, I sadly fall short of UK unis mathematics requirements for accounting and finance. The reason for this being that the required maths courses are not offered at my school.
Although I do not meet schools such as LSE, UCL and Baths requirements for Accounting and Finance, I do go above and beyond their requirements for the following courses:
UCL: Management Science, Information Management for Business BSc
LSE: Economic History and Geography
Bath: Management
As for my others schools, I'm applying for finance / accounting at Queen Mary, St Andrews and Edinburgh.
I am wondering if the aforementioned courses will still prep me for a career in IB / corporate finance, or if they are a complete waste of money.
TLDR; I can't apply for Finance / Accouting for top UK schools, what other courses should I look into?
There is merit to studying something nonstandard when trying to break into IB. In the UK, no one cares what you study; just go to a target. Absolutely no preference is given to someone doing finance over someone doing engineering. Stand out and be likeable, that’s all they ask of you.
To add on to what I said earlier, maybe look at some STEM degrees if they seem interesting to you.
Thank you for your advice! Is a non - econ / finance undergrad at a disadvantage when it comes to recruiting or does it simply all depend on the school as a whole?
E.g If I study Information management for business at UCL instead of finance, are there less networking events I can go to hosted by the uni?
Finance isn’t that respected in the UK as a major, I haven’t met anyone studying it in IBD
I'm hoping you're not referring to never meeting someone in the City who has done a Master's in Finance? Anyways OP study what you want, from A&F at Warwick to Biochemistry at UCL, just be inquisitive and you'll be fine.

Sadly I'm not that bright when it comes to STEM fields such as bio, but do you reckon a program such as management at a target will do?

What would you say are some of the more traditional courses to study in the UK for breaking into IB? e.g econ
Probably isn’t one anymore; per person economics at targets doesn’t do great for placing into top banks (although a lot of people still do due to self selection)
do whatever you want no one gives a shit, nothing outside like accounting is going to be relevant and even then it barely is.
Seriously? This is a load of BS. In IB, the Manor that you will find the most is finance and/or accounting. Maybe tied with management or business degrees.
Apply Warwick BSc Management, the degree turns into BSc Management with Finance if you decide to specialise in Finance in your 2nd year.

Thank you! Are you aware of how these candidates leverage their degrees to enter IB? I'm assuming they would have had to been part of their unis investment societies and other groups to show interest in the financial sector, correct?
