Rising College Freshman at UT Austin Mccombs Advice

I am an incoming freshman at UT Austin. I am an undeclared BBA student. I want to major in finance and work at an elite boutique out of undergrad. How can I set myself apart and what can I do now to get that opportunity in the future? What internships should I be looking for freshman year? How to stay on top of grades when pledging a fraternity? Any other advice you would give yourself when you were my age? Any and all responses welcome.

If you're not in BHP it'll be nearly impossible finding something in NY unless you're diversity or have NY bank connections. My advice is join finance orgs, find a finance related internship as early as possible during your summer going into sophomore year, and start prepping for interviews right away (BIWS 400Q Guide). When it comes to grades, it shouldn't be hard given that freshman classes are a joke. Here's my advice: - Take 12 hours: Jazz appreciation (3), UGS (3, just find something easy), ADV with Bunting (3), and whatever else they make you take nowadays - No Friday classesYour pledgeship will most likely be nothing so it shouldn't be hard to get a 4.0. Keep your grades high, attitude positive, and you should set yourself up for success. Good luck

Disagree with other poster. BHP isn’t a big deal for IB NYC. WSFM is what really matters, and even then there are many kids who aren’t WSFM or BHP and get NY IB offers.

It’ll certainly be harder without WSFM but it’s not impossible. For pledgeship, just exclusively focus on your grades and getting through it. It’s completely manageable to get a 4.0 and successfully go through any frat’s pledgeship. Depending on how much free time you may have, going to USIT meetings/trying to join more career focused orgs.

Not even close to being true. Class of 2025 isn’t done with recruiting, but I can think of many non BHP non diversity kids in it.

Class of 2024 there are 6 kids non BHP non diversity. Not sure what demographics of previous years are, but BHP placement is more so because BHP students are usually smarter and harder working. It’s been expanding every year so it allows for more placement for non BHP anyways.

Also considering that half the class is literally required to be women, you’re going to have a smaller group of non diversity in the first place. By filtering out BHP too you’re left with such a small group it’s a bad way of looking at things. It’s much more about capability and people you know in WSFM (particularly admissions committee) than what your majors are.
