RSM MAccFin vs WHU MiM vs Nova MoF vs FSFM MoF vs Mannheim MMM (no IB internships yet)
Hello all, I got accepted to various master programs and I’m trying to figure out which one would be the best for me. I am a German Bachelor graduate in Business Administration with major in Finance & Accounting and I want to break into IB. Unfortunately, I don’t have any IB-internships yet, only Big4 Audit, Corporate Banking and at some big industrial firms (both financial & management accounting). I’m interested in working in IB not only in Frankfurt, but also in London or other major European cities.
I got accepted to: Rotterdam School of Management - Accounting & Financial Management WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management - Management Nova School of Economics - Finance Frankfurt School of Finance & Management – Finance (probably) University of Mannheim - Management
RSM is probably the most prestigious one with the best placement in London. But it’s “only” a master in Accounting & Financial Management and also only has a duration of 1 year which means I would have to do internships after graduating. Is this a no-go or should I still be able to make it into IB? WHU and Mannheim are the best schools in Germany and would be the best for German IB but are not that known outside of Germany and I don’t know if the placement for Master students is that good. FSFM is also quite good but maybe slightly worse and would cost me 40k €. Nova’s only advantage is probably the nice location and the student life. Other than that, I’m not sure how much it would help me.
What do you guys think, which program would push my profile the most and help me to break into IB? It’s very important that I could do 1-2 internships in IB and also write good grades. Looking forward to some answers, thanks!
Hi, German undergraduate student here. (Short profile: studied at German target uni, several IB internships, starting MSc at a top school in Autumn)
I think FS would be the best choice (if you can find a way to finance it). It should give you plenty of opportunities to get internships in IB (even at a BB) in Frankfurt. From my experience (friends, LinkedIn research, fellow interns), FS places really well in Frankfurt IB. Alternatively, I guess MSc in Mannheim is still a great choice if you do not want to pay the 40k. I can't really talk about Nova or WHU, though RSM probably is also a good choice for Frankfurt but I guess it would be tough recruiting for London. Have you considered applying to Goethe?
Thank you for your answer! Do you think FS has a better placement than WHU. It would save me 40k. Problem about WHU is that it’s a master in management and maybe not optimal.
RSM would be great but it’s “only” a master in Accounting and after some LinkedIn research I didn’t see almost anyone who works in IB. Not sure if no one wants it or it’s almost impossible. How do you see it?
My GPA is too low for Goethe.
