Should I stay, or should I go?

Yes I am thinking of the song by The Clash...

I don't mean to post an annoying overly-posted subject right now (as I notice someone else has done the same today) but I really need advice on this very important decision, and could use tips from people who have done something similar in their undergraduate days.

So I currently go to a non-target in the Southeast (think U of Georgia, FSU, Clemson type School) and I desperately want to transfer. I am going to be a junior this coming fall. So as of today, I have only been accepted into Fordham's Gabelli School of Business which is somewhere that I originally did not want to go to that much. I don't think it is marginally that much better than my current institution, but I could be incorrect here. So my question is this...

Assuming I do not get into my last two schools that I am waiting to hear back from, would this lateral move be worth it in terms of recruiting for junior internships (which is basically going to occur in my first semester at said University). Would it not be worth it since i'll already be a junior? And also, I am very established at my current school, and have two high leadership roles in investment/finance related organizations that I would have to leave behind. I don't know if that's a big factor in the decision process, but I feel like my resume will lack the color that it has right now by being involved in so much. I will have to end mostly everything I am involved in... So given those few variables here, do you guys think making a move several months before recruiting even starts would be worth it, or would it be more of a hassle?

Also important to note: I am not only transferring because of recruiting benefits. I actually really dislike my current university, and being around the people here is almost degrading and are not the type that I should affiliate myself with.

Your last paragraph leads me to say Yes...in terms of recruiting you will be close to Wall Street so that's a strong plus. You might not be able to get into front office IB because they don't recruit extensively from Fordham. They do on one off basis, so you would have had to network a lot by then. Since you will be knew it will be a challenge. But you will have access to plenty of other finance position and can turn that into relevant experience later. Fordham is a good school and the business program is improving every year. However, the school is still lacking recognition from top Wall Street recruiters for front office positions (NYU, Cornell and Columbia are tough competitors).

Do what you want not what you can!

Why are you so unhappy at the university and with the community? The answer to that question makes a big difference. My guess is that you are at a pretty big school and maybe you just need to find new friends which can make everything during college more valuable. If there are numerous reasons you are unhappy, like lacking instructors, poor program structure or student support then it is worth considering making the move. You should know that just because you transfer it doesn't mean that people will be any better. You quality of life and overall happiness is more important than recruiting leads etc. With that being said you should examine the reasons are you unhappy, determine how you contributed to the situation and see if there is a way to improve things where you are currently. If after all that you are still unhappy - make the move to Fordham.
