Should I Write The GMAT Knowing It Will Be Void Before I Graduate?
My undergrad lasts 6 years, and I plan on working atleast 5 years out of undergrad before getting my MBA, so would it be a good idea to write the GMAT this year knowing that by the time I apply for MBA it wont matter?
Kind of like a learning method?
I was also planning on writing the GMAT again as soon as I graduate and then finally when I decode on applying to MBA.
Good idea or horrifically dumb?
why on earth spend the $250? Lots of free practice tests online.
Yeah, I know, but do you think writing the test and paying 250$ would be a better practice than a traditional practice test? Since it's the actual test vs a fake thing?
I don't understand why you want to take the GMAT now. Take it when you are about to graduate or even after, so that you can take advantage of the 5 years...
Well the whole point of me wanting to take it earlier and several times is so that I can see my progress and actually see what is on the test, and thus study based off that.
I don't see the point in writing your own GMAT, why not just TAKE the one required for entrance into any program rather than writing your own?
But in all seriousness, if the $250 doesn't bother you, take it. The experience will help you know how to prepare when you really want to focus on it. Perhaps you'll even need it sooner than 5 years and already have that box checked. Time is plenty at this point for you, might as well give it a shot.
Yeah that's what I figured. Would you say 250$ is worth it in the long run? So far I'm thinking about writing it sometime next summer, and it's not like I would have spent the 250$ any better, I would have just saved it so I could spend it on by student debt years from now, but 250 is unnoticeable when the debt is 100k+
Assuming you have 6 more years for school to go and 5 years of WE afterwards, you will not remember a single thing you prepared 11 years from now. This is a horrible idea.
Well it would be This summer, then again in 6 years, then finally in 5 years after that. So I would have written the test right before I apply to grad school. The first 2 attempts would be more for practice.
Utter waste of cash and by the way - you sit or take an exam, you don't "write" it.
I'd go with horrifically dumb. You don't know what the GMAT will be like in 6 years or whenever you plan on taking it for real. It could be completely different. However even if it was exactly the same, any preparation done years before would not even help you at all.
Would it at least look good if I put it on my resume when I apply for jobs/internships? Or would they brush it off since I don't actually have an MBA.
This idea makes no sense. Taking exams 5 years apart won't help you.
Seems like the general concensus is that this is a dumb idea. I guess I'll just write the LSAT next summer instead of the GMAT than.
Thanks for the help, guys.
Why? Are you going to Law school as well?
I'm doing a dual degree, so I have to write my LSAT before I can get admission into the law part of the dual degree.
Thought that since my school offered it, and that employers would like it, I should get it.
Was that also a horrifically dumb idea?
I can't see why you would have thought that the LSAT would make you a more attractive candidate for IBD is all?
Wait, so you haven't even started your undergrad yet?! Please go make some friends, and stop obsessing over something 11 years down the road.
The dual degree part of the program starts in Year 3, at least that's when you apply. So I have a good amount of time to figure it out.
I'm going to guess that the OP is British, so actually he would "write" an exam.
Don't be ignorant
I am British and can tell you that NOBODY here actually speaks like that. I assumed it was an Americanism?
