What do you mean by "bad freshman year"? Are you referring to grades or just the people/overall experience?

The latter. Gradewise I am very happy with how I am performing. However, due to some abnormal dorming situations and the club-centric nature of student life, I found it hard to be part of a community and get to know people and it gets very lonely and depressing. The thing about New York is that I have two close friends there and also some family. Also I am more of a city person in general, so I think I have a chance of being happier there. Then again, I really like the opportunities and the academics here at Georgetown, though I doubt Barnard's would be any worse. Also, if I go there I plan on double majoring in Computer Science and Econ-Math.

I had a similar experience in school at a semi-target and actually dropped out for a few years before returning to the same school. I would say strictly in terms of personal achievement and character development, stay put at Georgetown. It happens to a lot of freshman, and I think if you stick it out and do the best you can to reach out to others, you will feel a much higher sense of personal achievement in the end.

Obviously Columbia is great on paper, but I don't think your experience as a student will differ all that much from school to school.

weigh the pros and cons if you are miserable just leave I would try to tough it out though if you think you can manage. I mean imagine try answering the question on why you transferred from a good school to a less prestigious school so to speak. Lastly, I have a friend who has a cousin who works at a BB from a non-target in NYC. He did a lot of networking though good luck

I also applied to Cornell, which I just heard back from and got in! (College of Arts and Sciences) Any thoughts on this school?

Go for it. Just don't rely to heavily on those two friends in New York for your social life. Like I said, the whole social aspect probably won't change a whole lot from school to school. It would be foolish to miss out on the networking opportunities you'd have at cornell. It might not seem like a big deal now, but in 5 or 6 years when you want to lateral into another position, you will wish that you made more of an effort to branch out.

You will be much worst if you live in Ithaca. DC is a better place to live and a better college town.

I had a friend who transferred to Georgetown. Not from a liberal arts school, but a large private university ranked in the top 40 according to US News & World Report. Can't really help you much although I do know that Georgetown requires an interview for its transfer admissions (which I believe is somewhat unusual). Good luck.

Transferred to a similar caliber school from top 50 liberal arts school similar to the ones you listed. Totally doable. My grades weren't even that great (3.2-3.3). Your essays will really matter though. I'm pretty sure my essay was the main reason I was accepted. Have a really clear idea about your motivation for transferring, why Gtown specifically, and your plan once you get there. You need to spell this out in clear and convincing terms. Ideally, any prior leadership and internship experiences will back this up.
