UBC Sauder School of Business vs Rotman Commerce (UofT)

I'm an international student who recently got accepted to both UBC Sauder and UofT for commerce. Initially, I was set on UBC as I heard many good things about it. However, as I intend on pursuing a career in investment banking, I heard that Rotman Commerce gives out better opportunities than UBC noting that their location is in downtown Toronto? Does being in UofT Rotman Commerce give me a significant upper hand?

Don't think transferring to Ivey is worth it anymore considering all top firms recruit before or during the summer of your second year. Unless you decide to do an extra year you wouldn't be able to recruit for IB if you transfer to Ivey in Sept.

If you go to Rotman you'll be competing against Queen's/Ivey/McGill kids for jobs on bay-street. All three of those programs have better reputations than Rotman and place a lot more ppl into finance. UBC probably sends a similar amount of ppl in IB as UofT, but with a majority of them staying on the west coast.

I also know that this year UBC placed extremely well in finance in the US with 5-6 ppl going to various buyside and investment banking firms. Don't think UofT sent any outside Canada this year. If I was you I'd stick with UBC unless you have a strong preference for living on the East Coast. Either way not matter what you pick you'll need to be in the top 5% of your class to have a realistic shot at high finance careers.

UBC Sauder hands down.

Career opportunities in Bay St., Rotman may have the slight edge but with regards to global recruiting especially US recruiting, Sauder takes the cake easily. To name just a few: Blackstone NY, Goldman Sachs NY, Ares LA, Moelis LA, Citi NY, HSBC NY have all hired Sauder grads this year -- placements only rivalled by Ivey and Queen's in Canada.

Also culture-wise, Sauder has been known to offer a very chill, collaborative environment.
