UK Undergrad (lse/oxbridge)

Hello,

How is LSE Bsc Finance perceived compared to LSE’s more ‘flagship’ courses such as LSE Bsc Economics? Would there be any disadvantages when it comes to recruiting for IB/PE if you study LSE Bsc Finance compared to LSE/Cambridge Bsc Economics?

Thanks in advance

LSE Econ is the degree to go for. LSE Econ students get treated like royalty in terms of the course quality they get access to. It incorporates a little data science as well, so you get to develop a fairly comprehensive background in coding too. Finance is cool and everything but trust me nothing beats LSE Econ. Additionally the respect it gets in UK Finance is second to no degree university combination in the country. Furthermore If one of your four A levels is further maths, you'll low-key be able to breeze through maths as long as you pick the maths Module MA107 in your first year. It's basically A level Maths with a tiny bit of further

Finance student here. Don't listen to these guys, the majority of BSc Econ students I know admit to regretting not applying for BSc Finance.

The good thing about finance is that people actually want to study there. BSc Econ is just filled with people who want to go into banking but are surprised about the sheer difficulty of the course (Econ sets you up well for academia, even finance since I know of a couple who have actively applied for masters in the US to be admitted a place)

Bro if your offer is for LSE Finance, defo take it. yea yea flagship is econ but Finance module is still the best in London and also its LSE no one cares what you study. Trust me, im 2nd year and i closely follow who got what offers. At the end of the day it will depend massively on the effort you put as well.

Kindly,

“Nothing beats econ at lse” is just absolute and utter bullshit. It’s a massive department and they really don’t care for their students. Finance is a newer, maybe less well know course but it’s a much smaller cohort, and they’re assessed a bit more differently (they have midterm exams for some of their modules which is much nicer than 100% summer-based exams). If you go to lse, that should tick the academic box for you; looking into it any further is nitpicking and redundant to be honest. There’s a whole lot more to worry about re recruiting.
