Upcoming Exchange Program in Europe: How should I capitalise on the overseas exposure?
Heya monkeys,
Hope everyone's having a good or less than shitty morning!
I'm a BBA sophomore heading for an exchange in one of the leading European b-schools in France this Spring. From my forum trawling, I've gathered that the school provides decent networking opportunities, and that's something I'm definitely going to look into while I'm there.
However, how else can I use this upcoming semester as a way to position myself better for internship opportunities as well as getting a better understanding of the Euro financial markets? (Reason being this may help me in the future to obtain a FT analyst role in a European bank, I dunno, any thoughts?)
Most people I know are looking forward to this exchange program as a time to let loose and enjoy being overseas, but I feel it definitely can hold more potential than that, especially in terms of career prep.
If you guys have got any advice, feel free to shoot! I'm all eager to learn and look forward to maximising aforementioned potential. Cheers!
bumpppp
Do French firms sponsor non-EU students for internships? Or do you get some sort of limited allowance to work on the student visa? I'd worry a bit about the entry level job market for finance in France at the moment.
It can't hurt to network your ass off and search for every little opportunity though. You have the right attitude.
Speaking as an ex-pat in Europe... just be careful you don't get used to the lifestyle over here. You'll never settle for working US finance hours after you're used to this life.
