Honestly there isn't much of a difference since the same opportunities are offered to both BHP and non-BHP students. My friends and I (all non-BHP) just applied normally through our OCR website and we all still ended up at GS/JPM/MS. I know a few people who went to the BB info sessions and career fair to network, but just from hearing about their experiences, it didn't seem like it helped much.
TLDR - recruiting process is the same; we all apply through the same portal and it's up to the campus recruiter to determine whether you're qualified or not
It's kind of difficult not gonna lie..especially since UT isn't like a TARGET-target school. I don't hear a lot about non-BHP kids getting into IB at BBs as we all already know it's hard to get into so we pursue different paths.
It's definitely feasible to get NY interviews, but realistically speaking, chances of securing a IB SA position in NY are really slim if you're non-BHP.
Not saying that to discourage you, but that's just my take on it since I once wanted to do IB, but decided to switch gears my sophomore year.
From my experience it doesn’t impact decisions for IB. In consulting it is more of a factor. The more important factors are the finance orgs (UFA, USIT, TUIT, etc.) that you can join freshman year. Then sophomore year there are programs like IBA and Wall Street for McCombs (WSFM) that are more recruiting focused. For placement, UT has expanded its NY rep with the WSFM program placing like 15 from a class of 24 in NY. This summer they are sending 5 to Evercore M&A and 3 GS with others going to Lazard, JP, Moelis, etc.
FAP is useful for alumni connections but happens too late in the process to help with recruiting. Most of the mentions about the FAP program are dated. Transferring into BHP usually requires 3.8+ GPA (3.9+ preferred) and being active on campus. Usually about 20 kids in the transfer class.

Thanks. Any other light you care to shed on IB recruiting at UT in general? How feasible is getting NY interviews?

Thanks for the useful info! By any chance do you know how hard it is to get into the FAP program? Or transferring into BHP as a sophomore?
