Western Ivey vs. UCLA for IB/PE?
I’m a high school senior in Canada with a US citizenship, and I’ve been accepted to both Ivey at Western and UCLA. I mostly applied to IB/PE targets in the US to justify the extra tuition, while only adding UCLA to my list at the last minute, not expecting to be rejected from every other US school in which I applied. Western/Ivey is my top pick in Canada for both my overall fit, and obviously the recruiting advantage.
I’m struggling to decide which school to attend—obviously I’m drawn to the climate/location of UCLA, but aside from those few things, the schools are overall very similar. Aside from the fit, I’ve heard that recruiting at both schools gets very competitive, and maybe that hyper competitive clubs at UCLA may be crucial to the process.
My goal is to work in IB/PE in the US (no preference to east or west coast) and I’m curious—from purely a US recruiting standpoint—whether or not, one, which school will purely give me a better shot into the industry and, two, if said school is UCLA, does the extra tuition justify this recruiting advantage.
My decision will not be solely based on recruiting aspect, but I would love to hear what people have to say about either school. Thanks!

Recommendation: If your primary goal is to work in IB/PE in the US and you are willing to put in the effort to navigate UCLA's competitive recruiting environment, UCLA may provide a better shot at achieving your goal. However, if the extra tuition is a significant financial burden or you prefer a more structured and focused business program, Ivey is an excellent choice, particularly with your US citizenship giving you an edge for US opportunities.

Went thru the same decision, ultimately chose UCLA and ended up w bb/eb offers. Imo if ur a laser focused person whose only goal in college is to end up at top shops like gs tmt / pjt rssg, choose Ivey. The top placements at Ivey are much better than the top placements at ucla. If ur mentality is to live the college life / chill while still ending up w an ib gig that pays handsomely, choose ucla, try to get in one of the clubs, and you’ll be fine.
OP being that you’re a US citizen, I would echo this comment right here. Great comment. Western is fun but if you have money UCLA is close to as fun and it’s warm and beautiful. Your call
I’m in Ivey right now and agree but will add that if you go down this route you have to be heavily involved in WIC and sacrifice most of your social life to recruiting so that you can land a good sophomore job that will get you a good junior job.
Likely to enter Western with AEO this fall. Any tips for first year students regarding how to approach clubs/what to prioritize first year?
