Future of S&T sales?

Finished up an internship in IB and got to meet quite a few sales guys across the internship at various networking events (mainly equity sales).

Role seemed quite interesting - wondering what the future of sales is in markets, and any potential exit opportunities (i.e. HF IR etc).

It'll stay around forever. Ultimately PMs at hedge funds or asset managers like to be treated well and like what sales people do for them. It's very sink or swim. Either you can sell or you can't. It's not too bad in the first year or 2, but after that you're expected to perform.

Exits would be some HF IR, but I've found people prefer to exit to PE/corporate IR.

I fucking hate it when people say something you can do it or you can’t do it

Salesmen are one of the oldest professions. Probably one of the only non blue collar jobs that exist throughout cycles of automation.
