MS trading floor in Purchase, NY

Does anyone know anything about the trading floor for Morgan Stanley in Purchase, NY? Culture, what they trade, reputation... anything really.

That is an excellent trading floor with exceptionally talented people. I spent a day there in January as an alum from my school runs the entire trading operation.

The people there are very talented and it is retail so flow business is not as great as institutional which allows the traders to prop trade all day (generate BIG PnL)

Agri, Metals & Energy Financial & Physical Trading Operations. Beautiful area, but really expensive!!! Culture is a little more laid back than the floor in NYC.....at least that is what I heard from a couple of Traders who did their rotation there a few years ago when it was new.

its a big trading floor in the middle of nowhere. the commodities trading is legit.

the rest of the trading is retail aka much smaller orders so they make a lot less money than the institutional flow guys. the traders try to pretend they are hot shit but in reality they got rejected from institutional

It's not in the middle of nowhere. It's in southern Westchester County, one of the wealthiest counties in the country, commutable by train out of Grand Central Terminal.

MS has a bus they run into their campus from the White Plains Train Station. If you can get an interview at MS in White Plains, try J Aaron at Goldman in the city. Either way, they are just another reputable player in the commodity markets. A lot of Traders who work their live in the area so it worked out for both the company & employees. If that interests you, Bunge Limited, one of the world’s largest Commodity Merchant houses is headquartered right up the street. Huge Trading Floor, too!

If you have the smarts to get an interview @ Morgan Stanley, you would prolly get an interview @ Goldman Sachs' Commodity Desk in Manhattan.

I am just assuming ( I could be wrong) you do not want to work in the burbs and Commodities is where you want to be. That's all. Also, J Aron was the Commodity House Goldman acquired in the 80's....well before my time, too. I just assumed once again you knew who they were. Good luck!

^ that's sort of true, Dean Witter had a large number of floors in WTC2 so MSDW took over the legacy space post 1998- but hardly any MS employees were directly affected by the 9/11 tragedy. Wikipedia lists 13 casualties, most of whom were corporate security staff, bravely going floor to floor rescuing people while just about everyone else evacuated (2700 employees saved)...

Yeah, I believe MS has a plaque in 1585 honoring those individuals. I didn't realize that they were mainly Corp. Sec. staff.
