Smaller Day Trading Shops

Hi All,

I am currently seeking some advice regarding how I can break into the Trading industry. I am from a non-target with a less than stellar GPA (3.3; 3.8 w/out Pharmacy Freshman Year). Had internships in Siemens Tax Dept, BlackRock Ops, and Lehman Finance.

While I know I have a better chance flying out my window and punching a squirrel in the nut than I do landing a Trading gig at a top BB, I am seeking to join a smaller/boutique shop or perhaps get into trade support for a HF/PE firm.

I was hoping to get some advice as to which shops I can look into. Is there perhaps a list by region? I do not think I would, unless really necessary, move outside of the East Coast. Furthermore, if the smaller shop doesn't work, how can I get into a HF/PE firm's Back Office? The sources I check (SimplyHired, Doostang, eFinancialCareers) usually list only BB firms. I hardly see any MM/HF/PE firms.

Also looking for any advice regarding my situation. At first, I figured I'd get into Risk, then Portfolio Analytics, and finally trading...but I'm getting opinions that it may not be the best route...hoping to find some help and advice.

Thanks in advance!

The lists of firms that you will find on google are not for just reputable prop shops but rather they include shady places that require you to place a deposit. This is nothing more than having a fancy retail trading account.

Below is a list of firms, I can attempt to answer questions about individual firms here but I dont have detailed information about that many in particular.

How shady is Lion Pride?

I plan on placing a deposit with them can anyone tell me if they have had any negative experience with these company. Any prop firm I should watch out for?

I was wondering if anyone knew of any reputable prop firms that offer internships based in san francisco? I know this isn't the best place to set up a shop but I'm a sophomore going to be a junior computer science major in the bay area looking for a trading internship in the area come summer

Contact Group One. They have an office out of SF, I'd assume they would take regional candidates.

Group One, Cutler, and Wolverine all are reputable and all have offices in San Francisco.

For more (probably many I don't even know about) just check out the Pacific Coast Stock Exchange (PCoast / ARCA / PCX all the same entity) and look for member firms. That's where the San Francisco offices are coming from mostly anyways.
